Honesty is working for me and consistent routine. Also discipline.
First time I got clean and sober I did a personal development program that was only 4 days. I truly thought that would be enough for me so I didn’t further my healing. I did good for about a year and thought I could “drink responsibly” so I tested the waters and of course I drank way too much. While I was drinking I made a “friend” whom I got pregnant by and after telling him he went ghost. I made the choice to continue the pregnancy and was blessed with a handsome little boy. I was able to stay sober until he was between 6-8 months old. I kept it to only when he wasn’t in my care for a while. My papa passed away that same year, the next few months my drinking started to progress. The following summer I started drinking around my now 2 year old son. I stopped being honest with myself, my family and my therapist. My drinking turned from every few weekends to every weekend to every other day. I started using when my son was home and the shame and guilt started controlling me.
Now I am in a recovery 12 step program at Hannah House and I love it here! I’ve learned that I lacked honesty and discipline. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to heal from my past as well as many more aspects of my life. They say, “the way you do anything, is the way you do everything”.
I am choosing to do recovery 100% for me and my son.
