What Works in My Personal Recovery
In my recovery journey, I have discovered that maintaining a consistent routine and keeping my belongings and step work organized has been transformative. During my addiction, I neglected my living space, allowing clutter to accumulate. This chaotic environment mirrored my mental state and became a justification for my using.
At Hannah House, the structured schedule became a cornerstone of my recovery. I not only followed the house's routine but also created a detailed personal schedule that included chores, personal care, and homework. Over time, this disciplined approach became second nature. With the "what" and "when" of my day already decided, tasks were completed almost on autopilot. This freed up mental space for me to focus on inviting spirituality into my life.
By integrating prayer, meditation, and self-care into my daily routine, everything began to fall into place. I came to believe in a power greater than myself, capable of restoring me to sanity. The comfort, structure, and safety of my routine provided the perfect foundation for my recovery to flourish—a garden nurtured by faith and consistency.
I have also realized how deeply my external environment affects my internal state. To maintain confidence and stability in recovery, I prioritize keeping my surroundings orderly and tending to daily responsibilities promptly. These habits, combined with prayer and a focus on living in God's will rather than my own, have brought me peace and strength.
The tools and practices I've developed during my time at Hannah House have not only supported my sobriety but also inspired me to make recovery the center of my life. I plan to continue this journey by pursuing a career here, sharing the hope and structure that have given me a new lease on life.
